What do you love about your work?
Seeing a product and/or process go from an idea to something people enjoy every day. I love knowing that my work brings joy to millions it’s incredibly fulfilling. In addition, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of R&D leaders makes the journey even more meaningful.
What’s the pivotal moment in your career that defined where you are today?
There have been several defining moments in my career, but the one that stands out the most was realizing that the key to great leadership lies in Emotional Intelligence. Over the years, I’ve observed incredible leaders, both within my organizations and in the wider world, and I noticed a common thread.
They had the ability to inspire people to action, the ability to navigate complex issues, the ability to apply empathy even at the toughest of times, the awareness of inherent strengths and weaknesses, and the ability to create meaningful and lasting connections with people. I realised – that is the kind of leader I want to be! It took me years to understand that leadership is not a formula or simply about technical skills, but rather it’s about intentionally being better for yourself and for those around you. That was my ‘ah-ha’ moment. Now, every day, I strive to improve in these areas to be the best leader I can be, both for myself and others.
How do you define success in your personal and professional life?
To me, success is about growth, impact, and fulfilment. Personally, it means staying true to my values, continuously learning, and building meaningful connections. Professionally, it’s about driving innovation, breaking barriers in my industry, and creating opportunities for others. I measure success not just by achievements but by the legacy I leave, whether it’s through the products/processes I develop, the people I mentor, or the positive change I contribute to. It’s not just about reaching a destination but about the journey and a sustainable impact made along the way.
What challenges, if any, have you faced as a professional woman, and how did you overcome them?
Navigating a male-dominated industry has been the biggest challenge in my career. I’ve learned that one of the keyways to succeed is by building confidence in my own abilities and consistently proving my value through my work. It’s essential to own my expertise and not shy away from expressing my ideas, even when they might be different. At the same time, fostering strong relationships with both men and women has been critical, creating networks of support and finding allies in every corner. One key lesson I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and maintaining your authentic voice. Sometimes, you must push past the noise and stay true to what you know and believe, while also staying open to learning from others. It’s about finding balance, staying assertive, but also being collaborative, and always championing the value of diverse perspectives.
What motivates you to keep pushing boundaries in your field?
What motivates me to keep pushing boundaries in my field is the thrill of innovation and the impact it creates. I’m passionate about developing new technologies and products that shape the future of the food and beverage industry. Beyond that, I’m driven by the opportunity to challenge the status quo, break barriers, and pave the way for the next generation, especially for women navigating male-dominated spaces. Knowing that my work can inspire change, create opportunities, and leave a lasting impact keeps me energized and excited for what’s next.
How do you stay inspired and inspire others?
I stay inspired by continuously learning, embracing new challenges, and surrounding myself with passionate people. I draw motivation from innovation, mentorship, and the incredible women I support. To inspire others, I lead by example by showing up authentically, sharing my experiences, and encouraging them to step into their strengths. When we lift each other up, we all rise.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is to 'lean into your strengths and be unapologetically yourself'. Early in my career, I struggled with imposter syndrome and trying to fit into moulds that weren’t mine. This advice taught me to embrace what makes me unique, have confidence in my abilities, and approach opportunities with a mindset of abundance. It’s been a game-changer, allowing me to show up authentically, overcome challenges, and lead with confidence.
What advice would you give younger women aspiring to follow in your footsteps?
Trust in your unique strengths, embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, and never underestimate the power of your voice. Don’t be afraid to take risks, step into spaces where you might feel uncomfortable, and advocate for yourself. Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors and peers who can guide you but remember that your journey is your own. Keep pushing boundaries, stay true to who you are, and never let anyone or anything dim your light.
What do you think is the biggest barrier for women in your industry, and how can this change?
The biggest barrier for women in my industry is the lack of representation and unconscious bias, especially in leadership roles. To change this, we need more mentorship, better representation, and supportive networks that empower women to step into leadership. Organizations should also focus on breaking down systemic biases to ensure women have equal opportunities to succeed.
How would you describe your style?
A blend of professional and understated elegance. I value pieces that are both functional and empowering, with a touch of femininity and confidence. I like to keep things simple yet impactful, embracing what feels authentic to me. I always aim for a look that reflects my confidence and individuality.
What role does personal style play in your professional life?
Personal style plays a key role in my professional life by boosting my confidence and helping me project authenticity. Dressing in a way that aligns with my values empowers me, making me feel strong and comfortable, which enhances my performance and presence.
What do you want your style to communicate when you step into a room?
I want my style to communicate confidence, professionalism, and authenticity. When I step into a room, I want my presence to reflect that I’m competent, approachable, and comfortable in my own skin.
