We're a week into July, which felt like the right moment to share the soundtrack we'll have on repeat for the rest of the month.
Yes, it's hot. Almost unbearably so at times. Between the relentless sunshine and the growing reminder that summers seem to get warmer every year, we'd be lying if we said we weren't counting down the hours until golden hour. But then we remember that in a few months we'll be complaining about the cold instead. So, we'll make another margarita, apply our SPF 50, find the nearest patch of shade, and carry on.
This month's playlist came together accidentally. We were in the South of France a week ago, where life seemed to move at a slower, more deliberate pace. Long lunches stretched into early evenings, conversations lingered, and the music felt as though it belonged there rather than simply filling the silence. We came home reaching less for new releases and more for records that have quietly stood the test of time.
There's something reassuring about returning to music that's already earned its place. Songs that don't chase trends or algorithms. They simply exist because they're good. Decades later, they're still being played for exactly that reason.
So, this month's playlist moves between jazz, funk, soul, rock and Afrobeat, bringing together artists who mastered their craft and left behind music that still feels as relevant today as it did when it was first released. Sometimes the best discoveries aren't new at all. Sometimes they're songs that have been waiting patiently for you to come back to them.
Press play, enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, and let July do the rest.
