AJOSEPO SPOTIFY EDITION: SEPTEMBER TUNES

AJOSEPO SPOTIFY EDITION: SEPTEMBER TUNES

The heat has finally broken, the evenings are getting darker and, official or not, autumn feels like it has arrived.

Something about this time of year naturally draws us inward. Summer is outward-facing — plans, people, places, long evenings that seem to stretch indefinitely. Autumn feels different. Slower. More reflective. A little more seductive.

So, September's playlist follows suit.

We wanted music that felt smoky, jazzy and slightly alternative. The kind you want playing as the light outside begins to disappear. We start with Missing by one of our forever favourites, The xx, move through the quiet sensuality of Rhye, and revisit Nina Simone, Miles Davis and John Coltrane — artists whose music somehow feels even better at this time of year.

There are also two appearances from Blood Orange, including Janet Mock's spoken words on Family and Jewelry. Both are full of those small observations about identity, belonging and becoming that make you stop and listen. September, with its sense of transition, felt like the right place for them.

Perhaps that's what this playlist is really about: the pleasure of turning inward for a little while.

Press play and enjoy the seduction of autumn.
